Seguiremos atentamente el comportamiento de los escrutinios en mesas de distintos puntos del país, lo que nos permitirá establecer con mayor claridad cómo se configurará la diferencia entre los candidatos. Esto se debe a que, en prácticamente todos los países de América Latina, las encuestas de intención de voto tienden a mostrar resultados más favorables para los candidatos de izquierda que los que finalmente se verifican en las urnas, al mismo tiempo que suelen subestimar el desempeño de los candidatos de derecha en relación con los resultados reales del recuento.

We will closely monitor the behavior of vote counts at polling stations across different parts of the country, which will allow us to establish more clearly how the gap between the candidates is likely to take shape. This is because, in virtually all Latin American countries, opinion polls tend to present more favorable figures for left-wing candidates than those ultimately reflected in the ballot box, while simultaneously underestimating the performance of right-wing candidates compared to the actual election results.

Este patrón se repite sin excepción en los principales países de la región, independientemente del tamaño o de la supuesta credibilidad del instituto de investigación. Así, una vez cerradas las urnas e iniciado el conteo local de los votos, incluso antes de las primeras totalizaciones difundidas por el órgano electoral central de Chile, ya será posible identificar el diseño inicial del resultado a partir de estos primeros datos.

This pattern repeats itself without exception in the region’s major countries, regardless of the size or the purported credibility of the polling institute. Therefore, once voting has ended and local vote counting begins, even before the first official tallies released by Chile’s central electoral authority, it will already be possible to identify the initial outline of the result based on these early figures.

Con la llegada de los escrutinios de mesas de todas las regiones del país, será posible, mediante ponderaciones estadísticas, proyectar las cifras que delinearán la diferencia final entre Kast y Jara este domingo, día en que los chilenos oficializarán su elección para la Presidencia de la República.

As vote counts from polling stations in all regions of the country come in, it will be possible, through statistical weighting, to project the figures that are expected to define the final margin between Kast and Jara this Sunday, the day on which Chileans will formalize their choice for the Presidency of the Republic.
